KAPADIA RETAINED BY MURPHY PROTOTYPES FOR IMOLA

May 11, 2014 by Alex Kapadia

Alex Kapadia has been retained by Murphy Prototypes for the next round of the European Le Mans Series at Imola.

After his highly impressive debut for the team at Silverstone last month where he set fastest laps and sectors during the race, team owner Greg Murphy has decided to keep Alex in the car for round two of the series. Murphy commented “We knew Alex was quick before Silverstone but we did not realise how quick. During the race he was fastest on circuit for the whole of his double stint and was also very professional out of the car. We are very happy to retain him for Imola”.

Kapadia said “I am very grateful to Greg for giving me another chance in the team. After the puncture at Silverstone dropped us out of contention for the win, it is great to have another shot to help bring the team the win they deserve.”

Kapadia will share the Hertz Car Sales sponsored car with ex F1 co-drivers Karun Chandhok and Rodolfo Gonzalez for the 4 hour race and is looking forward to teaming up with them again. “Karun and Rodolfo are obviously extremely quick drivers and we worked well together at Silverstone. I think we have one of the strongest driver line ups in the race.”

The race takes place at Imola, Italy on Sunday 18th May and will televised live on Motors TV at 12.45pm GMT and also on www.radiolemans.com.

KAPADIA SETS PACE AT SILVERSTONE

April 27, 2014 by Alex Kapadia

Alex Kapadia impressed the European Le Mans Series paddock at Silverstone last weekend with his blistering pace in his first outing for the Murphy Prototypes team. His drive was enough to win the Radiolemans.com <http://Radiolemans.com> Spirit of the Race award voted for by the TV viewers live during the race.

Team-mate Ex-F1 driver Karun Chandhok qualified the Hertz Car Sales sponsored car in 3rd position and Venezuelan Rodolfo Gonzalez started the race for the Irish team. Gonzalez suffered a blown tyre while running in fourth position just as Kapadia was getting ready for his stint 1hr 20mins into the 4hr race. Unfortunately for Gonzalez, he had just passed the pit entry and had to do a complete lap with the tyre delaminating and destroying the bodywork of the Oreca LMP2 racer. Six laps were lost while repairs were carried out and the car re-joined the race with Kapadia at the wheel but down in 35th position.

Over the next hour and twenty minutes Kapadia was consistently the fastest car on the circuit scything through the traffic and setting fastest lap of the race. By the time he pitted with just under an hour to go he had taken the team from 35th  back up to 10th position. Chandhok took over for the last stint of the race and set four consecutive fastest laps of the race bringing the team up a further two places to eight place.

“It was a mixed race for us” Kapadia said after the race. “We definitely had the pace to win today but the puncture just lost us too much time. On the positive side I am happy with my performance and that I showed the endurance racing world what I can do. The highlight of my weekend was stepping out of the car to a round of applause in the garage from the team and then being voted the radiolemans.com Spirit of the Race award by the TV viewers. I just hope I get another chance to run with the team and my co-drivers so we can get the win for the team that they deserve.”

Team owner Greg Murphy said “Alex did an amazing job for us today. He really has made his mark on the team, trouble is the rest of the paddock will be after him now! It is bitterly disappointing that we did not get the win that we so badly wanted but we showed our pace and we will be back to fight another day.”

Kapadia who was sponsored by Hertz Car Sales, Motorsport magazine, Club100 and CTC Wholesalers for the Silverstone race, was just filling in for regular driver Tor Graves who was ill for this event, but hopes that there may be more opportunities at future races. “We think it is unlikely that Tor will have made a full recovery before the next round at Imola. The team and I will be working hard to make it commercially viable for me to be in the car for the next round if the seat becomes available again”.

KAPADIA TO JOIN MURPHY PROTOTYPES FOR ELMS OPENER AT SILVERSTONE

April 12, 2014 by Alex Kapadia

Professional racer Alex Kapadia is joining Murphy Prototypes for the first round of the European Le Mans Series at Silverstone next weekend.

Kapadia made an impression on the LMP2 paddock with his pace in the final two races of the 2013 season while racing for Boutsen Ginion Racing. For Silverstone he will be taking the place of regular Murphy Prototypes driver Tor Graves who has been sidelined with shingles.

Alex will be joined in the car by ex-F1 driver Karun Chandhok and F1 tester Rodolfo Gonzalez  for the four hour race which takes place next Saturday 19th April. He said “I am extremely grateful to Greg for this opportunity. The team have shown themselves to be on top of their game recently and I am very much looking forward to being part of that and helping them get a strong result at Silverstone. I am playing catch up a little as I did not test the car at Paul Ricard last week but I am a quick learner and in Karun and Rodolfo I have two great co-drivers to learn from.

Team owner Greg Murphy said “When I found out that Tor could not race at Silverstone my first thought was to call Alex as he is one of the quickest silver drivers around. I was extremely impressed by Alex’s pace in the Boutsen car last year and think he is definitely a driver to watch for future. I think we have a very strong line up for Silverstone.”

The race will be televised live on Motors TV on Saturday 19th April at 14:10hrs GMT and also broadcast live on radiolemans.com.

KAPADIA AND BOUTSEN SCORE 5TH PLACE AT PAUL RICARD

September 28, 2013 by Alex Kapadia

Professional racer Alex Kapadia helped Boutsen Ginion racing score a season best 5th  place during his double stint in the final round of the European Le Mans Series at Paul Ricard this weekend. He also was the fastest silver driver in the LMP2 category all weekend despite being only his second time in the car.

Kapadia, who made his debut in the LMP2 category just two weeks ago at Budapest, qualified the in 6th place just two tenths of a second behind ex-F1 driver Christian Klien, and just four tenths away from 3rd place on the grid. “My last lap was my quickest as our three driver line up has meant limited running in practice, so we are still learning with every lap. I am very happy as I know that I can find more time,” said the 33 year-old from Buckinghamshire, UK.

For the race Kapadia took over the car from James Swift while it was running 7th one lap down on the leader. He quickly passed the Jota car of Simon Dolan to unlap himself and set a series of laps which saw him as one of the quickest on the circuit, at the time only eventual race winner Brendan Hartley was quicker. He was soon into 6th ahead of SMP Racing  and a few laps later was into 5th with a bold move past the Race Performance Oreca 03. Still charging, the ex-European Radical Masters Champion inherited 4th at the last round of pitstops when newly crowned champion Nelson Panciatici made an unscheduled stop for a new steering wheel. For the next 12 laps the pair were the quickest on the circuit, with a wheel to wheel battle to the end, Kapadia eventually finished 5th to record his best result yet in the LMP2 category.

The result was also a season best result for the Boutsen squad despite the lack of time in the car for its three driver line up.

Olivia Laine Boutsen said “Alex drove a great double stint here today. He has proved that he is fast and despite never having tested the car he was already mixing with the fastest drivers in the series. We hope we can work with him next season.”

Alex Kapadia commented “I have had a great couple of races in LMP2 with Boutsen. I am still learning more about the car with every lap and I feel there is much more to come as I gain more miles in the seat. I am extremely grateful to my co-drivers and Boutsen for this opportunity to prove myself and I will be doing everything possible to be back next year.”

KAPADIA RETAINED BY BOUTSEN GINION RACING

September 26, 2013 by Alex Kapadia

Professional driver Alex Kapadia will be back in the Boutsen Ginion Racing LMP2 Oreca for the final round of the European Le Mans Series.

The three hour race which takes place at the Paul Ricard circuit in the south of France this Saturday will be Kapadia’s second race for the team having made his LMP2 debut in Budapest two weeks ago. This weekend Alex will share the car with 2012 Maserati Trofeo Champion Renaud Kuppens and Radical Masters and GT Open racer James Swift.

Kapadia shone in Hungary and climbed from 15th to 2nd place during his first stint. During his second stint he went on to set the fastest lap of the race in difficult conditions. The fastest lap was eventually taken by Brendan Hartley but Kapadia had made an impression on the paddock. This performance has prompted team owner Olivia Laine-Boutsen to put Alex back in the car for the final round. She commented “We discovered a very quick driver in Hungary. We were impressed by his laptimes and feedback so we are happy to continue the journey here in Le Castellet.”

“I am extremely happy to be given another chance in the car. I proved what I can do at the Hungaroring and hope to build on that this weekend.” said Kapadia.

The race will televised live on Motors TV on Saturday 28th September at 16:00hrs CET.
